Karl Roche, proprietor of the West Street Tavern, has applied to the City for permission to construct an open seating area behind the restaurant. This outdoor feature would be seasonal, open from approximately mid-May through mid-October. It would seat fifteen diners within a wood lattice enclosure, would not be open after 10 PM, and would not have any recorded music nor live entertainment.
There was hearing before the Newton Board of Aldermen on Tuesday night January 10th to discuss Karl's request; no vote was taken.
If you have any questions or concerns, please either stop by the West Street Tavern, email Karl at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , or call him at 617-795-0883.
About 4:30 AM on Friday our site went down; and by 5:30 it had been replaced by the immature chortling of one or more criminals proclaiming themselves "Tunisian Hackers" and displaying a common expletive in large print.
Since the entire shared server had been compromised down to the root (similarly affecting over two hundred unrelated websites) the system had to be wiped all the way to bare metal, and the operating system reinstalled from scratch; then all the webhosting, email, and related systems software was re-compiled; finally each of the websites was restored from backups.
Our site came back online on Saturday, but with contents (and registered users) current only up to December 7th. Finally, as of just a few minutes ago, we are totally whole, completely restored up to date.
I apologize for any inconvenience or upset. Please let me know if you spot anything broken or missing. The server is being hardened against future attacks, and we do not expect more trouble; but the Internet is still a bit like the wild, wild West.
