On October 26, 2011 our newly formed association held its first meeting with local business and concerned residents. The meeting was productive, with several local business people participating as well as residents. Also in attendance were Alderman Lennon, Alderman Ciccone, Alderman Merrill, and Amanda Stout of Mayor Warren’s office in charge of business development.
Concerns and issues addressed were:
Traffic: A lot of discussion of speeding on Adams Street and side streets – Chapel Street was mentioned.
Nonantum Post Office: The government has put this post office on its list of expected closings (again).
Parking: AmandaStout suggested that this neighborhood “test” no parking fees on Saturdays during the holiday season. There was much concern from merchants regarding their customers getting ticketed. Many in attendance stated that the parking issue directly affects their businesses. Domenic from Steamers mentioned paying parking fees for patrons that receive tickets while waiting in line at his store.
All in all, a good beginning. Lot's of interest and plenty to work on together.
