There was a community meeting with the Police Department on December 5th for communites Auburndale/Waban. Alderman Gentile, Harney, Sangiolo and Aaron Goldman were present. Reson for this meeting is a large house break pattern in the city. In the past 2 months, 40 homes have been broken into. These are not concentrated in Auburndale, but they have been in Auburndale, West Newton Hill, Waban, and Nonantum.
Over the past two months, the police have noticed a pattern - most occur in the daytime between 10a.m-4p.m and on Mondays and Wednesdays. For the vast majority of cases, the perpetrators have broken in the homes through the rear or side of the house and predominantly stealing laptops and jewelry. The perpetrators seem to be working in pairs - a driver and person breaking in the home.
The Police are forming a burglary task force - using non-descript police cars and deploying plain clothes police officers. The Police recommend residents call the regular Police phone number 617-796-2100 or the Dectective Bureau at 617-769-2104. The Police Department has been in contact with other departments in the area: Needham, Brookline, Wayland, Wellesley and looking at potential suspects.
The most important take away - we are a community and we must all work together to keep our neighborhoods, our families and our homes safe. The Police Department is ready, willing and available to help. Be wary of solicitors - check ID, and also consider signing on the http://www.nixle.com/. It is a notification system to let you know the criminal activities your police departed has reported.
I did not hear anything about this meeting. One of my clients sent me via an email with all this information and asked if I was aware of this! I think every neighborhood should be aware of this and that is why I am posting it to our site.
